Advancement gap analysis

Gap analysis shows every Scout in your den against every requirement of every adventure for their rank. A filled square is signed off, a hollow one is still open. Bobcat is ranked first because it gates the rest, and the same data is what the meeting planner draws on.

Free for one den, forever. Reads always; writes only when you press Send.

One row per Scout, one square per requirement. Filled is signed off, hollow is still open. Cole is the reason next week covers Bobcat again.

A grid, not a fourteen-page report

Scoutbook Plus can tell you what a Scout has done. It is much harder to see the den as one picture. DenBuddy lays out Scouts down the side and requirements across the top so the holes are obvious at a glance, and the adventure view rolls the same data into a progress ring with a chip for how many Scouts still need it.

Bobcat comes first, and the den knows it

A Cub Scout finishes Bobcat before anything else counts toward rank. For a brand new den that single rule decides the first two meetings, so when Bobcat is blocking the den DenBuddy says so at the top of the screen instead of burying it in a list.

Ready for rank, without the spreadsheet

A Scout is rank-awardable when every required adventure is complete. DenBuddy surfaces those Scouts so you can order badges and plan the ceremony, and it never claims a rank that Scoutbook has not been told about. The system of record is still Scoutbook.

  • Per Scout: what is left, and how many meetings it would take.
  • Per adventure: how many Scouts need it, so one activity can serve most of the den.
  • Per den: required adventures, electives and work carried over from a previous rank.

The gaps are the input to the plan

This is the difference between a tracker and a planner. Once DenBuddy knows the gaps, planning a meeting is picking which of them to close on Tuesday, and after the meeting the record sheet feeds the answer back in so the next plan starts from the new truth.

The rules this feature works inside

  • DenBuddy reads Scoutbook Plus always, and writes back only when you press Send.
  • Scouts have no accounts, and nobody can message a Scout.
  • A den leader sees their own den. A parent sees their own Scout.

Questions leaders ask about this

Where does the advancement data come from?

From your own Scoutbook Plus session through the DenBuddy Sync browser extension, or from what you enter by hand. DenBuddy reads Scoutbook always, and writes back only when you press Send.

Does DenBuddy mark requirements complete in Scoutbook?

Only when you press Send. DenBuddy shows you every row first, then files them through Scoutbook's Import Advancement path and keeps the receipt — or you download the same rows as a CSV and upload them yourself. Nothing is ever pushed automatically.

What about a Scout who joined halfway through the year?

Their history imports with everything else, so their gaps are simply different from the rest of the den. The planner can filter to make-ups and show you who needs the catch-up work.

Can parents see their own Scout's progress?

Parents see their own Scout only, never the den. Scouts themselves do not have accounts in DenBuddy at all.
